FORGING - Drop - Hammer - Press
We provide global sourcing for your custom designed OEM and ODM forgings, in iron, steel, brass, aluminum, and high temperature alloys with High Quality - Low Cost off shore suppliers. Prosna already has long term relationships with off shore forge shops which assures the quality of your parts. Also, since we work with a wide range of shops, we can offer a wide range of materials and production capabilites.

The forging process provides for the near net shape of parts with very strong grain structure. Since the the basic shape of the part is obtained by pressure, much less material is lost in the machining process. This provides parts that are stronger than castings, but much cheaper than being completely machined from bar stock.

When metal is hot, it is soft and pliable, allowing it to be easily formed under pressure without breaking or cracking. This is why most parts are "hot forged". Some alloys and smaller parts can be "cold forged". One example are small fasterners, like screws & bolts.

The disadvantages of forging is that when high temperatures are used during the foring process, rapid oxidation takes place, creating a surface scale and a poor exterior finish. Another disadvantage is the tooling cost, which is normally higher than a comparable casting due the pressures and forces that the tooling must withstand. Also very close tolerances can not be obtained. This means that secondary machining will most likey be needed to obtain a finished part.

Remember, the major savings with off shore componets is the labor. Therefore, it is always more economical to obtain finished parts rather than raw forgings.
